    OVERVIEW



    RECON
    This guide contains info about the recon class and it`s unlocks with a performance grade from 1-6.

    “RECON” IN BF2
    The recon class is a mix between spec ops and sniper from bf2.
    Even though the distance performance between the weapons from the sniper and spec ops in bf2 are huge, there are similarities.
    Both had explosives (claymore,C4) both had silenced pistols which gave a hint of stealth and both had light armour.

    WHY PLAY AS A RECON?
    The recon class is very versatile so it has something for every occasion which means you always can stick to it and not change to another kit.
    This makes it easier to get good experience with the kit and you will know it strengths and weaknesses.

    DEFAULT RECON KIT

    The only thing you start with when playing the game for the first time, and choose to play recon is a sniper.

    Pac side: Park 52 sniper rifle

    Same scope size as the unlock-able zeller heinze.
    The scope has a little green in it.
    It has 5 shots,2 more than the unlockable zeller heinze.

    Eu side: Moretti sniper rifle

    Has the widest scope of the snipers.
    The scope has a little blue in it.
    This sniper also have 5 shots.

    As you can see you have no machine gun but that will change.




    RECON UNLOCKS
    The recon class have two talent trees, sniper and spec ops.
    The sniper tree focuses only on sniping and has a gear only specialized for that.
    The spec ops tree focus on stealth and spotting and urban warfare.
    You can also mix the sniper and the spec ops to get a different combination.
    Lets look at the different unlocks for the recon.




    SNIPER UNLOCKS

    APM

    ******

    This is one of the best unlock for the recon class.
    It can be used to defend flags and yourself.
    It can be used as a warning system and as a trap.
    Remember to place the apm in the direction you want it to explode with the FRONT.
    It does not kill allies which it did in bf2 and it will not explode when an enemy goes past it crouched or in prone.

    If you pick up a recon kit with apm then you “get” those apms. If that recon player already have layed out his apm`s then those apms will count as yours.

    UPS
    -gives you more mobility as you don`t need to watch over it after you have placed it out.

    -Can be used as a warning system.

    -Can defend your flags

    -Can defend you while you are taking a flag

    DOWNS
    -Enemies can evade it by crouching or go prone


    EXTRA ZOOM

    ****

    This unlock is a must for a sniper, this unlock allows you to zoom (gives you extra zooming level) with the sniper (to zoom, scroll with the mouse) This can be both good and bad.
    If you zoom to far you will safely get a headshot at a non-moving target, but if the target moves then it will be hard to hit.
    If you zoom to little it is harder to hit a non-moving target but easier to hit a moving target.

    UPS:
    makes it a lot more easier to snipe,
    now you can finally start practicing on long range sniping.

    DOWNS: well… doesn’t work on carbine?

    STABILIZER

    ****

    This unlock neutralizes the sway.
    You use it by holding down the SHIFT key.
    This makes it easier to hit with the sniper when you are about to execute a difficult shot or need to calculate the height on a long distance shot.
    The stabilizer also works on the Lambert Carbine.
    This makes the Carbine more accurate and therefore it does more damage.
    The effect of the stabilizer on the carbine is best at mid-long range.
    The effect of the stabelizer varies on the carbine and the sniper rifles. On the sniper rifles the stabelation is 2-2,5 sec with a 5-6 sec cool down
    On the carbine the stabilation works for 3 sec with a 7-8 sec cool down

    UPS
    Easier to shoot with the sniper
    Works on Carbine, makes it easier to hit on medium-long range

    DOWNS
    Last short
    Different effect depending on weapon.


    ZELLER HEINZE ADVANCED SNIPER RIFLE

    *****
    A new sniper rifle.
    It has only 3 shots per clip while the stock snipers have 5.
    So why should you pick this sniper?
    There are several reasons for that: . It can destroy apm,rdx,EMP-mines and motion mines, if you blow the motion mine while an engineer is deplying him you get 1 kill and he gets 2- mohahaha (and of course everything you can destroy with a gun, you can destroy with a Zeller)
    This can save a walker,tank or a apc which can give your team an advantage.

    UPS:
    Can destroy apm,rdx,motion mines, EPM-mines etc etc

    DOWNS
    Does NOT (at least not always) kill a lightly armoured target with 1 shot
    Has fewer shots than the standard sniper rifles.


    SNIPER DECOY

    *****

    This device removes your red dot and puts it on itself, it also protects against red squares from the support net-bat,squad drones and enemy squads.
    It also protects you from the support radar.
    Against a commander however it does not work so well.
    It does NOT protect you against a commander spot but it does protect you against a commander sat-track and the commander uav. What you should do when the enemy has a commander is to destroy the commander assets with RDX. Even tough he can only find you by spotting, it will be boring for him without any commander assets.
    The range of the sniper decoy is 60 meters in radius which means 120 meters in diameter. (I think it is the same range of an uav)
    You do not get a signal when you are out of the sniper decoys range.
    When you move outside the sniper decoy range it will still appear as a red dot but it will not take away yours.

    (the commander could spot, but I don`t know if the same goes when he is spotting from the commander screen)

    UPS
    Protects you from commanders and support scans.

    DOWNS
    A bit short range
    Only 1 sniper decoy.


    SPEC OPS UNLOCKS

    RDX

    ******
    This is an extremely good unlock.
    To switch between the detonator and the RDX, press the right mouse button.
    The RDX has a lot of uses, it is useful for destroying cars and pesky walkers.
    A common RDX tactic is jihad; to make a jihad, place 3 or more RDX on a car, boost and jump off right before your target and detonates the RDX when the car with the RDX has reached it`s goal.
    It can be used to kill many soldiers cause of it`s huge explosion radius.
    If FF is OFF you can use RDX to get to rooftops.
    The most useful thing you can do with it however is to destroy commander assets.
    If you manage to cut off their commander then you have contributed A LOT to your team and given them a huge advantage (if your team also have a commander) or at least annihilated the advantage the enemy team had.
    UPS
    -Makes sure your enemy die when you push the button at the right time.

    -Large blast radius

    -Can destroy walkers,cars,apcs,tanks,gunships,transportships,in fantry and commander assets.

    -Can defend your flags.

    -Can defend you while taking a flag but with the exspense of no carbine

    DOWNS
    -You need to camp in order to make sure you kill your target, giving you little mobility.

    -When using it, you cannot use any other weapon.

    NETBAT FADE DELAY

    ****

    As a recon you have an extra responsibility to spot, especially as a sniper.
    This unlock makes the one you are spotting being spotted for a longer period of time.
    Red diamonds also stay active longer.
    It is very useful for your team and when you are hunting someone.
    This unlock only works when you are in a squad.

    UPS
    Makes it easier for your squad too hunt down enemies.
    Good for spotting

    DOWNS
    The effect of this unlock could have been greater. (longer spotting time)

    IT-33 ACTIVE CAMOUFLAGE

    ****

    This is probably the most debated unlock in the game
    It last for 20 seconds uttill it overheats. When it does, the overheat last 19 seconds, 6 of those are overheat. (bar not moving)
    It can make you up to 90% invisible, 90% is much but to manage that you have to hide on the right places or else you will be very easy to spot.
    Since it doesn`t guarantee 90% it will most likely be 60-70% reduced visibility.
    The Active Camo works best on very dark or very bright places.
    The Active Camo makes a electronic noise which easily can be hared and it is that which ruins the most of the Active Camo. The support class have plenty of things to spot a recon using Active Camo so I don`t think the sound should be a part of the counter measure too.
    However if you stay at longer distances, the sound wont be hared and the active camo will work better and give you about 80-90% invisibility.
    You can`t use weapons when you are using the Active Camo.
    it deactivates when you take damage from a fall and climbing ladders but it doesn`t deactivate when you are shot on. It also deactivates when it gets overheated.
    When you are using the Active Camo your vision is reduced and gets unclear.
    If you deactivate the Active Camo and shift to something else very quickly, you will have a grumpy
    Sight for a little period.
    EMP grenades and EMP strikes ruins the Active Camo and gives it blazing colours.

    19-20 sec cool down when overheated 5-6 of these seconds the meter does not go down..


    UPS
    You can sneak behind enemy lines.
    Can save you from engaging enemies
    Is plain fun to trick people with it.

    DOWNS
    Makes noise
    Does not grant 90% (only up to 90%)

    LAMBERT CARBINE

    *****
    This is the machine gun which requires most skill to use.
    It has less damage and less zoom than the other assault rifles. As a countermeasure it is more precise than the assault rifles, especially when you run,crouch,dive/prone.
    Even tough it is precise, it is not ideal for long distance shooting cause of the low zoom and the low damage.
    Shot with bursts at long distance and full auto/burst at short distance.
    If you use the stabilizer the Carbine gets better in mid-long range.

    UPS
    Gives the recon a close quarter option.
    Easier to cap/defend flags.
    Precise when close

    DOWNS
    Weak damage
    Bad at long range
    Not the highest rate of fire

    TL-S1C CAMO UPGRADE

    ****

    This is an upgrade from the Active Camo. It does not remove the sound and it make you have the same visual appearance as the IT-33 Active Camoflage is giving you.
    It only makes you stay in Active Camo for longer periods of time.
    the upgrade makes you stay in active camo for 28 secs + 1|for activating + 1 for deactivating. the cooldown last for 19-20 seconds were 6 seconds is with with overheat.
    This extra time can save you and is more helpful than it sounds like.

    UPS
    Gives you longer active camo
    DOWNS
    No effect to it`S INVISIBLILITY

    SNIPER UNLOCKS FOR SPEC OPS SOLDIER

    APM
    ******
    A good unlock for the spec ops soldier.
    Since a spec ops soldier is more active in taking a flag than a sniper, he can use the APM to protect himself while he takes the flag.

    EXTRA ZOOM
    *
    You can`t zoom with the Lambert, therefore this is a worthless unlock for the spec ops soldier.

    STABILIZER
    ****
    This unlock makes the Carbine stronger were it is weak, at mid-long range.
    The Carbine gets more precise and hits with more shots.

    ZELLER HEINZE ADVANCED SNIPER RIFLE
    *
    A spec ops soldier can`t use a sniper.

    SNIPER DECOY
    ****
    A good unlock if you fight at tight quarters or need to take a flag the stealthy way.
    If you fight at close quarters the Sniper Decoy will cover you perfectly.
    If you fight at more open spaces you will have to take with you the sniper decoy and repositioning it, which may make you lose valuable time on the battlefield.

    SPEC OPS UNLOCKS FOR A SNIPER SOLDIER

    RDX
    ****
    A good unlock to destroy for the commander and defend flags but since the sniper is rarely in close quarters he will not use it so often.

    NET BAT FADE DELAY
    *****
    Since a sniper isn't caught up in the middle of the fire it is easier for him to spot , since this unlock makes the spotting stay longer your spotting makes a greater asset to your team.

    ACTIVE CAMO
    *****
    This works perfect for a sniper.
    Since you usually are far away from your enemy, they won`t hear you using the Active Camo + The Active Camo works better visually if you are longer from your opponent.
    Works great if you are going from one point to another without wanting to be seen.

    LAMBERT CARBINE
    *
    A sniper can`t have a spec ops weapon.

    TL-S1C CAMO UPGRADE
    *****
    This is useful if you need to stay hidden a bit longer or if it is long to your next sniping spot.



    ULTIMATE STEALTH= SNIPER DECOY+IT33 ACTIVE CAMO+SNIPER-NOT CARBINE
    I have tried out the stealth part now and found out it worked best for sniper but also good for spec ops.
    I rarely died as a sniper.
    I got fewer deaths than usual as a spec ops,but my score was also lower, it worked good for flag capping.
    As a sniper I managed to stay pretty much invisible for the enemy and occasionally died by another sniper

    Think about it, if you manage to use active camo with the sniper decoy the right way, then no one will see you. If you have the Carbine equipped, it requires you to be close before shooting in order to kills fast and efficient. People can hear active camo at close range blowing your cover. Also you need multiple shoots (5) to kill someone and the carbine also make noise. However if you are a sniper, you will not be in the middle of any gun fight and you can use active camo from vantage point to vantage point without anyone hearing you. + A good sniper will only need one shoot, I will say that is a lot more stealthy that 5.


    Ups: You get fewer deaths.
    It is cool to see people walk past you and shooting in the air.
    Gets easier to spot for your team and get behind enemy lines.
    Perfect on maps were no vehicles are allowed and your team needs to get behind the enemy line to get a flag
    (It is ideal, i have tried it and it worked great! best thing i have ever done,and we won the battle thanks to me YAY!)

    Downs: You loose your explosives
    Your score get`s lower

    No warning (apm at flag or trafical point.)











    THE TWO ROLES OF THE RECON KIT



    SNIPER
    The sniper is straight forward and easy to learn

    +Can shoot people over a great distance
    +Good spotters
    +few deaths
    -Not good at a close range
    -Guns shoot slowly
    -Hard to be on the top of the list


    CAMPING SNIPER
    The camping sniper tries to pick a great spot, and camp.
    he will try to be in that spot for as long as possible and if the spot is great enough, then the enemy wont know you are there, a camping sniper is a lazy sniper who doesn`t move.

    MOBILE SNIPER
    The main goal of the mobile sniper is to snipe on the move,
    particularly as a defender or as part of an assault team (especially
    for engaging Titan consoles). Mobile sniping should be reserved for
    those who have some experience with the gameplay mechanics and are
    capable of handling themselves in tight corridors. The advantage of a
    mobile sniper is that they benefit the team's objective (capturing
    silos, destroying consoles)

    SNIPER VS SNIPER
    The fastest one to hit the head or (n00bishly) manage to take two body shoots first wins, reaction is the key here.

    SPEC OPS
    The spec ops is very versatile and therefore isn`t as easy to learn due to the many jobs it can take

    +very versatile
    +Good at short range
    +Excellent as squad leader!
    +Good at destroying vehicles,commander assets and much more!
    +Very mobile
    -Not good at long distance
    -It does not do much damage
    -Is more of a "jack of all trades" type,so get`s kinda second best in everything

    TYPES OF SPEC OPS

    INFILTRATOR
    The infiltrators job is to get to the enemy’s main flag. This will help your team immensely towards winning as this tends to cause a chain reaction of loosing flags for the opposite team.
    This is what happens: Lets say you are playing camp Gibraltar and is PAC. Your team is stuck in PAC base by the other team The infiltrator get`s to the main flag (Eu base) and captures it. Allies spawns on it and takes other flags (ruins,central camp), some resistance are meet but not enough.
    Those who pressed the uncap from harbor is moving to toll station. The attacking team from pac base takes harbor. When Toll station gets attacked by both sides it falls after a short time.

    FLAG CAPPER
    The flag capper works best if squad leading, making it faster to take flags. Walks around and makes sure your team doesn’t stay with just one flag.

    DEFFENDER
    Makes sure the flag he/she is defending doesn`t fall to the enemy.


    ASSASSIN
    Goes around and knifes people demoralizing the enemy
    A good assassin will need to stop if he/she is dying way much more than killing.
    Demoralizing is good but not with the expense of team tickets.


    Score vs. Contribution-
    As a sniper you will most likely not get to the top of the scores.
    But the job you do is important. You spot and covers your allies and halter the enemies movement.
    As an infiltrator you may die some times before you manage to take the main flag.
    As a recon you should rather try to manage doing your job rather than trying to get the top score. Who knows, maybe by doing your job will take you to a gold medal?



    SUM UP- WHEN TO USE WHAT
    On the passive unlocks I tell you what you need to do in order to activate them.

    APM =when defending flags, capping flags,protect you as a sniper or halter enemy movement
    EXTRA ZOOM= use it (scroll) when you are a sniper
    STABELIZER= When you are new to the snipers and wants to get better or when you want a more powerful Carbine.
    ZELLER HEINZE ADVANCED SNIPER RIFLE= This should be your primary sniper at first, since it only has 3 shoots you will learn to take advantage of those shots and you will learn patience.
    SNIPER DECOY=When a support player with radar or a commander is on the enemy team.
    RDX=When destroying commander assets, walkers, passage denial, defending flags.
    NET BAT FADE DELAY=spotting and engaging
    ACTIVE CAMO=Capping flags, moving from vantage point to vantage point, when you escape, get behind enemy lines, when scouting (beeing in active camo and tell your team-mates what you see trough voip or ventrilo)
    LAMBERT CARBINE=When sniping isn`t the way to go or you just isn`t successful with sniping and still want to contribute to your team with what the recon kit has to offer.
    Remember, even if this is a assault kinda gun; dont play as assault!
    TL-S1C CAMO UPGRADE=Last 10 seconds longer than It-33 active camo.

    *EXTRA*
    You can pick up RDXs and APMs with "G" or whatever button you use to pick up kits. APMs and RDXs are linked to your kit (backpack), so when that disappears, the explosives are gone too.

    OVERWIEW
    The recon class Is a very versatile class with both short and long range capabilities.
    It is kinda like a mix of;
    engineer (destroying with rdx)
    Assault (lambert carbine)
    Support (sniping)

    The recon excels in killing but how can you get helping points with a recon?
    There are 3 ways for a recon to get helping points.
    *FLAGS; defending, attacking, capping
    *Destroying commander assets
    *kill assist

    Recons are best when they are few, too many recons on one team is not good.
    This will only give many deaths and weak firepower but this doesn`t always need to be the case.
    Example: a defending team of recons can hold any group at bay.

    The recons real strength to their team is their jobs
    The recon does some very important jobs for their team and their squad.
    If a recon focuses on contribution rather than score then that recon may turn the tide of the battle

    The guide was a bit hard to read a places, but overall it was pretty good. And I never knew why sometimes it would take 3 RDXes to take down an asset, but 2 other times, thanks!
